This design is taken from a section of a fabulous domed skylight made about 1900 by the famous American glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany. The chart appeared in my book Victorian Needlepoint (later Arts and Crafts Needlepoint) where it is shown with the sky stitched with long straight stitches in blended colours.
The canvas is 18 to the inch, which helps to show the fine detail of the flowers and allows for delicate shading in the sky. It is a canvas to play and experiment with so we are selling them without threads, although a list of suggested Appleton colours is included. I have seen this worked partly using stranded cottons and silks.
