Samplers

Samplers have been a traditional form of embroidery for hundreds of years. The word derives from the French 'essamplaire' roughly meaning 'example'. They do not have one absolutely precise form and may just be a means to practice or copy various stitches. They can also be a demonstration of skill, or can be stitched as reminders of words or phrases or to mark particularly significant events.
