Birth of a new design - part 7

Posted on March 07, 2016

There is a great deal of detail in the foliage, which is something perhaps I should have paid more attention to before launching into the charting.

My choice of 12 gauge canvas gives me very few stitches to allow for well shaped small flowers and leaves, and of course they need to be  recognisable even when partly hidden.

Many of the small leaves in Morris' painting are oak leaves, which have a very distinctive shape. I only have one stitch for each little bulge on a leaf and that is, as you can see, insufficient to make it recognisable so I have had to smooth the edges and they now look more like leaves from a birch or perhaps a beech tree.
